Are you ready for a manager?
Do you have professionally recorded material? Do you have a following? That usually means more than 10-15 people coming out to see you perform live.
Are you earning a living as an artist? Managers work on commission, so working for long periods of time building someone’s career without getting paid isn’t exactly appealing.
Do you have a web presence? A website? Social media sites? Are you active on them? Do you engage with your fans?
Do you have any kind of budget to further your career or are you expecting a manager to come and make it all fall into place for you? Are your expectations realistic?
Obtaining a manager is a serious proposition and it can’t be taken lightly. Just because you’re an artist doesn’t mean you don’t need business savvy. You need to think about what is in it for the manager as well as you. Can they make money off you as is? Or do you need development? Be honest with yourself! Fooling yourself that talent is enough to make it in the music industry is just that…fooling yourself!
Are you ready to give a manager 15-20% of your earnings? Are you willing to work hard enough? You’re not just responsible for yourself anymore. Once you sign an agreement, it’s a promise that both of you will do whatever it takes to succeed within a given amount of time. Understand that a manager will need to move on if things aren’t happening for you. It’s a simple case of economics!
Are you ready and willing to take advice? Constructive criticism? This is what you asked for! Are you manageable?

Excellent advice Cindy…!!
